Nov. 24th, 2003 01:56 amso while it's true that my mother's side of my family isn't, as i said the other day, mad crazy close, what i always realize i've allowed myself to forget, when i've been away from them for a while (and, in a not unrelated item, when i've been around my father's side of my family in the meantime), is that we're very close without being mad crazy. in fact a lot of my mother's family is closer than a lot of my father's family, when i really think about it -- that is, we know each other better on that side, as people, irrespective of how much time we actually spend together.
also, and i only realized this today, on my mother's side there's far more of being one generation away from really tight relationships. on my father's side, you get descended on -- you're S's daughter, so naturally because we're family i'm just as close with you as i am with S. on my mother's side, it's a much more protestant sort of relationship, but just because it's less effusive doesn't mean it's not there.
