fox: curling stones: i love this game (curling)
mantra: i wanted to be an official. i like officiating. i wanted to be an official. i like being useful. [repeat over sounds of low soothing chimes]

so today was the first day of the US women's curling association's senior women's bonspiel, the first national event ever held at our club. not being a us curling association (note distinction) event with national, world, or olympic implications, the only officiating required was timing and measurement. DB, the site chair, handled measuring, both times it was required. [livejournal.com profile] flt is the official rules person in the house, but she also has a job -- so today (and tomorrow!) i was Deputized.

at the club at 7:40 this morning. first draw at 9:00. further draws at 12:00, 2:30, and 5:00. time in between games: enough to fill out paperwork for next game and make sure there are enough timers. that's it.

long, long day of concentrating on things. had to call one game on account of a team ran out its clock. first time i've ever seen that happen. i hated doing it. the players were unhappy, but not belligerent*, but still, it sucked.

*note that, when you're actually being timed, the penalty for running out your clock is that you forfeit the game. this isn't kid stuff.
