fox: curling stones: i love this game (curling)
the briefest of updates:

continued to play shockingly well today. this went on until my very last rock of the day, when a variety of stupid decisions converged, and the site of the convergence was me, and i fell down hard, ruining what would have been a perfect shot and costing my team the end and the game (and my club the tournament). for want of a nail, man. i was furious with myself for having made the camel's-back-breaking stupid decision, but at the same time it was just this friendly regional thing, not at all competitive, no big deal of any kind. so i couldn't quite figure out why i was so upset -- until i'd pulled myself together and then burst into tears for a second time not ten minutes later, when i realized that instead of feeling better after the initial instant of pain, the knee i'd landed on was feeling worse and worse and was in fact almost all the way up to excruciating.

so i now have spares for tomorrow ([livejournal.com profile] datlowen, i love you, and don't forget!) and monday, so i can give the leg a rest. (the bruise is below, rather than on, the kneecap, and is a good inch high and two inches across. and this is just the center of it, from which the pain radiates some distance. [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw suspects i bruised the bone.) will play on tuesday, take a break on wednesday, and the kayser begins thursday evening. for now, the bruise hurts more if i bend my knee very much, so i've been trying to keep the leg straight -- with the result that the knee is aching a bit from being stiff. fun!

word of the day: ow.

so, my brother and his fiancee are in the waiting stage of lots of academic applications. he's headed for law school, and she's applied to MFA programs (creative writing). the news today is that fsil has been accepted at the university of michigan, where bro had already been wait-listed. this being one of their top choices, if they both got in it'd pretty much be a done deal; so tomorrow he's going to call and ask them if they can let him know sooner than the middle of april (which is when she'd have to give them a decision) whether he can get in off the wait list or what.

good vibes appreciated! :-)

i'll try not to keep posting all night; the idea is, i'll either have nothing to say, or if i have things to say, i'll save them until the end. but: i can't make promises. :-)

well, hell, ms. annie lennox wasn't in very good voice, was she? for once it was probably a good thing that they don't let them do the whole number up there.

and i have to say, the second of the songs from cold mountain kicked the ass of the first one. didn't anyone else think so?

memo to michael moore: now, that's how to accept your award and be critical of the administration at the same time.
