1. Founders' Feast: people were dressed to the nines (or, the nearly-eights; black tie, after all, not white, so it could have been swanker). food was good. wine was abundant. speeches were inevitable. the (college) master's speech was good. the token (college) founder's speech was no problem. the (university) chancellor's speech was endless. someday i want the sort of job-for-life where you don't have to be funny, because people will be required to laugh at your jokes no matter what.

2. the shoes? quite comfy, but not for hiking. walked the whole mile from residence to college; had a whole evening; got about half a block on the way back and said SCREW IT, and walked the rest of the way home barefoot (okay, nylon-foot). that wasn't so comfy, either, but it was better. lotion on the metatarsal arches, yesssss. (eta: declared this a case of Poor Unfortunate Soles, and [livejournal.com profile] merrycontrary was kind enough not only not to fire me, but actually to laugh. i fired myself, however, i assure you.)

3. i had another thought, but i don't remember what it was. (seriously, there was so much wine. champagne, white1, white2, red, white3, port, port, port, port.)

4. If there is at least one person in your life who you consider a close friend, and who you would not have met without being part of an online fandom, post this sentence in your journal.
