in today's mail: statement from the bank where i had an account in the DC area.
opening balance as of 11/24/04: $0.00
monthly maintenance fee: $5.95
new balance: -$5.95
i'm sure you're thinking what i'm thinking, which is OMGWTF?!!? remember when they said that account would be
closed as soon as the balance was zero?
so i call the number. the recording tells me my account is overdrawn. i dial zero for an associate and tell her the whole story (records of which she can presumably see on her screen), she puts me through to someone in the correct department, who tells me she's waiving the fee and closing the account -- and going to send me a letter confirming the closure in writing.
also, yesterday i personally went to Sam's Club to make sure the account i began trying to close
a year ago is in fact closed. because i had a statement crediting me $35 for an annual fee. they closed the account while i was there, and promised to send me a check.
still a fan of US-style customer service. :-)
