fox: arctic fox: time to hibernate (hibernate)
actually, i'm done moving, done unpacking, done putting stuff away -- i'm pretty impressed with how quickly i got installed into my new room (in which i will live for two years, if i have my way, instead of just one).  i do not say that moving has ceased to suck, however, because although this particular bout of moving has ended, moving does and will always suck.  RAR, i say.

in other news ... i don't have a ton of other news.  had the interview for the job-thingy yesterday; five candidates for four positions, so i'm pretty comfortable with my odds.  it's after midnight, so i'm officially now the president of the student association.  i still haven't quite come down with this cold i'm coming down with, but i can definitely feel it in my throat.  i have these zinc lozenges that i stocked up on in the winter, but the last time i took them they upset my stomach.  i'm thinking of taking them and taking antacids at the same time.  that seem like a reasonable solution?

i finally set my voicemail greeting on my phone, which should please my mother.

also, because i restarted semagic just now and it was therefore helpful to me:  happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] indydc!
fox: girl with a fan. fangirl. (fangirl)
-- i give you this moment from the west wing episode arctic radar, which is one of my favorite moments from the files of a president i frankly like a lot better than the one we've got:
POTUS:  THERE ARE BIG SIGNS!  YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!  THEY SHOULD GET TOWED!  I HOPE THEY GET TOWED TO QUEENS, AND THE TRIBOROUGH IS CLOSED!  AND THERE'S A BIG CRAFT SHOW AT SHEA!  A FLEA MARKET!  OR A TRACTOR SHOW!

On which subject, actually -- O'Connor, I mean -- am I the only one [on the left] who thinks people are getting a little hysterical?  I mean, yes, this means that this president will be naming two Supreme Court justices instead of just the one we assumed he was going to get whenever Rehnquist finally hangs it up.  And, yeah, that'll move the court to the right some, which nobody [reading this] wants.  But, dudes, it's true O'Connor's been the swing vote -- but have you noticed that a lot of the time she's swung that way instead of this way?  I don't see this as a huge loss, and I'm having a hard time feeling like the world is ending.  Yes, the place is more right-leaning than we'd like.  People are throwing around the fleeing-to-Canada thing again, which, I have to tell you, that bugs me a bit for two reasons:  first, because it's not actually the way to solve problems in the United States (like, yeah, I'm not there now, but I'm planning to come back and not Settle Elsewhere, you know?, and when I'm talking to my brother about looking for jobs in the DC area, I'm talking to him about NoVA instead of Maryland because his vote is more valuable there), and second, because I haven't seen anybody actually do it, so as much as I love you all, it just seems like whining.  And besides that, you know, it was the left wing of the court that was responsible for the recent totally gonzo eminent-domain ruling.  So the bad shit can come from both sides, is what I'm saying.
