thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gblvr, my bpal imps are here!

tonight i have chosen "tombstone", which smells lovely and smoky in the jar, kind of old-west dusty whiskey-in-a-tavern, and then almost immediately upon putting it on my wrist, it warms up and something sweet comes out of there, and damn.  i mean, i like it, but there's, like, a burnt-sugar thing happening in there that you can't smell when it's wet.  wow.

this particular imp keeps losing its cap when it tips over, which is tragic.  i have found, however, that the spiral of my spiral notebook does nice double-duty as a test tube rack.

okay, so, Tombstone.  following [livejournal.com profile] misia's example, i shall quote you the copy from the website:
A celebration of one of the first commercially produced perfumes of America's Old West.  A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar.

and then report that, yeah, in the vial and when it's first put on, the balsam is pretty strong, but it quickly goes almost all the way away.  it's still there a little bit, and combined with the vanilla it makes my wrist smell oddly like a ben & jerry's when they're making the waffle cones -- but the presence of the other stuff makes the vanilla sort of deeper and (shockingly) more complex than your average 'vanilla' perfume, and i like that.  (a plain-vanilla vanilla perfume has its place, of course.  like, i could see myself going plain-vanilla at work, and then adding this for evening, if i were the sort of person who had a job and then went places after.)  the cedar is elusive; i can smell it, but then it goes away and comes back again.  tricksy.
