there's one woman in the sop1's who has two important issues: 1) she doesn't blend well, and 2) she's always, always, always flat. she tends to sit behind me, and there have been times i've wondered why the only voices i can hear are mine and hers, if it had something to do with the angle or something, but it doesn't matter where behind me she is, she's always the only one i can hear (specifically). after rehearsal tonight i asked the woman who had been sitting next to her, i said, "is it just me, or --" and she didn't let me finish the question. "no," she said, "it's not just you." i mean that's how prominently flat this woman is -- there was nothing else i could have been about to ask.
and it's not like as a section the rest of us are complete rock stars, but man, she drags us down. we go flatter than the tenors (!) in the ave maria, and the laudi alla virgine is bordering on disastrous. if she would just not sing, we'd be halfway to where we need to be -- but of course one can't suggest that. bah.
