do people still use the word "hoYay"?
Jul. 29th, 2006 09:29 pmCan I propose, then, "heYay" where the first syllable stands for "hedonism"? (Got me a manicure and pedicure today, for the first time in lord knows how long. Ahhhhhh.)
Also today: achieved earrings, though it was not an un-fraught process. The place
misia mentioned is clear over on the west side of the city, so I thought I'd hunt around and see if there was anything closer by. I called a place about a third as far north as her place is west, and asked if they had two (2) 14-gauge 1/2" and two (2) 16-gauge 7/16" silver hoops with hematite beads; the young man who'd answered their phone said sure, come on up, and so off I went. (I figured since I didn't actually want to be pierced or tattooed, the place's skill at those procedures was more or less immaterial to me, so it was less important that a place be well recommended.) When I got there, I waited approx. a year and a half for someone to emerge from the back hallway where the buzz of tattoo needles was making a racket, and told him what I was after; he said Oh, I'm not sure I have those sizes left, let me go check. "Good thing I called ahead to ask," I said to the woman next to me, who was waiting to get her nose pierced. The kid came back several minutes later, with two 1/2" and two 7/16" silver hoops with silver beads, all 16 gauge. I explained -- very patiently, I thought -- that a) I wanted the larger hoops to be 14 gauge, and b) that I'd asked for hematite (which he called 'carbon-color' -- whatever) beads, to match the earrings I was already wearing. He finally brought me what I'd asked for originally, and I borrowed his pliers to tighten the 16-gauge hoops to the point where the beads wouldn't fall out if, say, my hair brushed against them.
Oy.
I also hear from my father that he got in touch with my aunt, and my uncle is feeling better so everything seems to be okay in that area for now. Phew.

(Please don't assume I have your address just because you've given it to me before. I may, it's true, but to be sure, it's best to leave it here.)
