I almost got bounced from the Christmas concert tonight, on account of I've missed more than the nominated number of rehearsals. But, I said, at the beginning, I said I'd have to miss three, so if two was really the max then I'd just not do it, and you said No, okay, so I bought the music and I've been coming to all the rest of -- anyway, long story short, the lady who (says she) called me to let me know about this (the chorus administrator; I suppose it's possible she called my old cell phone) deferred to the guy whose decision it ultimately is (the chorus master; he speaks for the music director on this sort of matter, because the MD is Artistcally Absent-Minded about what he's said is okay to whom and when), and that guy decided to relent. His word, relent. :-) I apologized for the misunderstanding, which is evidently what it was, with the admin and I each believing we were on the same page, and he said he understands that the season is overbooked for everyone, and he doesn't want me to miss this just because I'm doing Messiah (without which I'd only have missed the permitted two rehearsals), so, fine.
Between you and me, I think he backed away from being a stickler because I'm one of the sopranos whose C natural is the same in the A-flat major chord after two bars of A minor as it was before. That is: yes, we sing a little lower when we're going back to the E flat and the A flat, but they didn't move C.
Heh.
