fox: little cartoon self (doll)
After much investigation, I've learned (at least, I've been advised) that the Walking Company in Georgetown has the sandals I'm after in stock, so I can buy them in person rather than ordering the damn things. The question on the table is, should I get them in black or brown? (The answer, of course, is "both", but I can only afford one pair at this time.

I'm leaning toward brown, on account of I do already have black sandals -- granted, not remotely as cute, not even in the same ballpark, but at least the color is covered, right? (Parenthetically, in searching for this image I discover that Birkenstock has reintroduced the Kairo, and I cannot tell you how simultaneously happy and frustrated this makes me, because while I do have a good job now, and stuff, I have in the past seventy-two hours or so identified several hundred dollars' worth of shoes that I desperately need, for values of "need" that have more in common with "deserve" and almost nothing in common with "or else I'd be going barefoot".)

1. I ordered the Kairos. I'm also going to buy the Danskos this afternoon. Now I really can't buy two pair of Danskos, is what. Fortunately, if I'm not mistaken my credit card statement closes today, so poss. both purchases will show up next month. Wouldn't that be exciting! If they do show up this month, though, I can still take it. Yes.

2. The father of a childhood friend of mine (D) died yesterday. I heard this first from C, who's still in closer touch with D than I am (also, C and D share a very close mutual friend from college, which is where C herself got the news), and who said the father had been unwell recently (which I hadn't known), but this was completely unexpected. I passed the news on to a few other people from high school, one of whom (J) subsequently heard from his own father -- the two sets of parents being still very good friends -- that D's father had been opening his swimming pool; apparently slipped or fell or passed out or something as a result of low blood pressure from his medication?; and drowned. Which is, like, not at all what a person expects when the news is that someone hasn't been well and has then died suddenly. He was sixty years old.

3. Polygraph v2.0 in three weeks. Go me. Witness my enthusiasm. [and there was much rejoicing]

Turns out when she said "black and brown", she meant they only had the Lolita sandals in black and light brown, a color that interests me not at all.  So, black sandals it is!

They also had Margrete, which I tried on just for size.  My Dansko clogs are too big, see.  They are in fact one European size too big, and I blame this for the time I sprained my ankle by taking a perfectly innocent step and my right foot simply rolling over on its side.  And yet, the clogs press uncomfortably on the tops of my feet because my instep is like crazy high.  I know that the answer is to get shoes in the right size that don't come as far up the foot (those clogs in the "correct" size -- no chance I can even get my foot into them), but it's hard to tell if things will fit without ever having tried them on.  These ones? did fit!, meaning in future I can order them without bothering to try them on in person; so the next time I can afford to add expensive shoes, I'll have a lot of styles to choose from.  [whimper]
