On August 20, 2003, the master_apprentice mailing list disappeared from yahoo!groups. By the end of the day, we came to understand that the list had been deleted in a general sweep -- the list had three (I think) moderators, but the one listed as the owner also owned other lists, at least one of which was chan-centric. There was a complaint, the chan list was non-TOS-compliant, and all lists owned by that owner were bounced.
It sucked a lot. I see while I'm link-hunting that
emrinalexander has referred to it as well. It sucked mightily. And we had no option to recover any of it -- no warning, it was just gone. Message ends.
