but i can't vote until next week.
Feb. 6th, 2008 07:43 amThis morning I had a dream that I went to the emergency room -- in an ambulance, but an ambulance that was already bringing another patient on a stretcher, so I was really just a passenger -- and once there (where, by the way, a sort of mixed gospel-type choir was singing in the courtyard; I didn't yet know which, if either, candidate had won Super Tuesday, but whichever it was, they were happy about it), had to spend a lot of time on the phone explaining to someone why I needed to be seen, and was then offered someone from my own doctor's office to tell me what my options were. And I was like, but, this is the ER, right? So waiting until you can see me is maybe not my first choice? And they all explained very nicely that the point of emergency medicine wasn't so much to make the patient well again as to tide her over until she could get regular medical attention (which I suppose is true, and I should not be surprised that the bit that made the most sense was the truest came just as I was waking up).
Of course, I'm seeing my doctor this very morning, so the whole ER thing was extra anyway. But still: BAH.
