Shall I tell you what is tragic (on the scale of "tragedy" that involves shopping)?

This dress is awfully cute.  It is so cute that when I saw it at Loft, [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon said "Yes, [livejournal.com profile] sanj and I saw that and agreed that you should try that on."  And I did try it on that day, in a size too big and regular rather than petite.  It was in fact cute, but predictably, too big and too long.  Today, I tried in on in the correct size and petite.  It continues to be cute -- but I am no longer planning to watch the sale rack for it, because what you can't see in that picture is that it has pockets.

Pockets.

Granted, they're on-seam, so they're quite well hidden.  But even if you never put anything in them, not even your hands, the minute you move they gap just a bit and become visible.  For god's sake.

Ah well.  Maybe if I paid $20 for it instead of $70, I could have someone sew up the pockets and make the dress acceptable.

Meanwhile:

This dress is lethally cute.  It's a bit iffy on the hanger, but it turns out that the color is, after all, Fox-compliant, and it fits quite nicely! ... in the chest.  Unfortunately, it is quite a bit too tight through the hips.

That, my friends, does not tend to happen with the Loft stuff for me.  Or in fact any stuff.  Normally, it fits in the waist and hips and is too snug in the chest.  I'm bigger on top.  This one, if I went up a size so it fit in the hips, it would gape very unattractively in the chest and shoulders.  This is a dress made for non-curvy people.  Tragic, because in the five minutes I was acquainted with this dress, I came to love it a great deal.

I also found a charming dress at Banana Republic that made me heartily wish someone were getting married so I'd have an excuse to buy it (sadly, I can't find it on the website).  That's how cute it is.  And, a dress that I liked very much at Limited is now on sale!, and they didn't have it in my size.  Their website is not helpful at all, so I also can't show that one.

Alas.

I did, however, find [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon-compliant stuff at (of all places) New York & Company.  Y/N?
