in knitting news: I finished my brother's socks the other day, as I said, and I finished my sister-in-law's last night. I had a moment (okay, a couple of hours - I may have lost a little sleep) of extreme worry when I finished grafting the toe and held the second sock up with the first sock and it seemed to be like, no kidding, a half-inch shorter. I knew I'd done the same number of pattern repeats on the instep on both socks -- if I hadn't, it would have been a good two inches off, not one stupid half-inch -- so I thought maybe I'd picked up one less stitch on each side for the gusset, which would have meant I'd finished the decreases two rows earlier (because of decreasing every other row, of course). Two rows could be a half-inch. I fretted and fretted about this, because dudes, I'd counted the picked-up stitches along the flap twice (since I'd neglected to write the number down), and I was sure I was right, and anyway it was all the way back at the heel, and I'd already grafted the toe, so I sure didn't have two rows' worth of yarn left if I un-grafted and wanted to add two rows. GAH.
But then this morning it occurred to me: even if I did make this mistake, and finished the decreases two rows earlier, that would just mean there were two more rows of plain sole on the second sock than on the first -- because I did the same number of pattern repeats on the instep on both socks. In short: the second sock may well be shorter, but it is nothing more serious than a gauge issue, and probably not even that. It's probably just because the first one had been tried on my sister-in-law's foot last weekend and stretched a bit.
in curling news: last night I had draw weight in, as one of my opponents said, my pocket. It was awesome. Combine that with a skip who was calling the right ice for draws, and I made some very satisfying shots. w00t.
in fangirl news: skiffy tonight, yay, and I may give up on the eensy-bit-at-a-time transfer of All That Who from my battered old external to my shiny new external, and return to the earlier plan of re-cribbing all the files from
ellen_fremedon and
sanj, who got them from me in the first place.
in other news: there is no other news. Allergy shot time. Stuck with needles FTW. No, wait.
