extra fun with work
Jan. 13th, 2010 03:13 pmYou know, there are a half-dozen disparate analyses of what's going on with the adjectives in this language, and I could handle that. I'm not as expert as any of the experts coming up with these analyses, but I could combine and distill them and decide on a half-dozen-and-first analysis that made the most sense based on all the information I had, which - unlike what they had - included all these analyses. Fine. So the experts disagree, is what I'm saying. I can live with that.
But I'd love it if the native speakers - even just the highly-educated native speakers - could agree. They don't have to agree on every point!, I mean, but it'd be fantastic if they could get together on points like "adjectives agree with the nouns they modify in gender, number, and case". If one person is telling me this is true, and the other is telling me adjectives agree in two of these three features, there's a point at which I'm just, you know, going to start TEARING MY HAIR OUT AND SCREAMING.
