So two weeks ago this evening I flew out to Green Bay, WI for the national championships of curling. Or I tried to - there was airline-related drama and I only got as far as Chicago that night, but my bag was checked through and therefore locked up, so Friday morning I got dressed in Thursday's clothes and went the rest of the way, which, granted I got a hot shower the minute I hit the GB hotel, was not an auspicious nor a restful beginning to a ten-day slog through 5am alarms and post-midnight sleeps. Got it done, though, and all the curlers said it was the smoothest-run championship they've known in years, so go boss and go Deputy Me.
Flew back east on Sunday and went straight to Gentleman Caller's, where we put on an episode of QI and I promptly fell asleep on his shoulder while he watched it. Awesome. (And really restful. I say that absolutely without irony.) Had some dinner there and came home and slept like a stone. Worked from home on Monday so I could do laundry at the same time, without which I wouldn't have been able to come to work on Tuesday. Went to rehearsal Monday evening and discovered I was late because concert week is this week, not next week as I'd thought in my confused, overworked, underslept little head. Sigh. Curled on Tuesday, hung sort of in there but couldn't get my shots to work out, lost. Went to rehearsal last night and fought like hell to keep the pitch up where it should be; I could feel myself going flat toward the end of the evening, which is a strange feeling for someone without perfect pitch, but there it is. Also my feet are still kind of not recovered from the ten sixteen-hour days of running around, so last night my ankles were throbbing omfg. (My sleep debt is also not made up. Every morning this week it has been a struggle to get out of bed. The fact that I haven't been able to get to bed before about 11:30 any night - see above re: concert week - isn't helping. Next week I should be back to okay.) I've contacted someone about getting gigs as a world-level curling official, rescheduled an appointment with the EAP counselor that I totally flaked on on Tuesday, submitted a petition to waive me in although I missed the deadline to register for graduation this semester (oy, this university and my issues getting e-mailed information from them), and sorted out my taxes*. Still need to file those. And I also need to read this article and write a three-page paper on it by Monday. Plus do some work work.
And how are you?
*side note, the fullest envelope is going to the entity to whom I owe no money. It is ludicrous that the Commonwealth of Virginia wants a full copy of my federal return (less ludicrous that it wants the Maryland return by which I claim I've paid taxes to one state on money I earned in Virginia so I shouldn't have to pay again). Well done Maryland for insisting that I not send along a copy of my federal return. Oof.
