fox: my left eye. "ceci n'est pas une fox." (Default)
I have a beautiful fan that my parents brought back from their trip to China with my brother's mother-in-law. It's painted with flowers on one side, and some text, and has more text on the other side. The macheteyniste translated the text literally and generally, which is marvelous! I'm trying to prepare a printed or typeset version of her handwritten translation to frame with the fan for display.

Unfortunately I can't frame both sides of the thing, so I'm also trying to reproduce the text on the non-graphic side. With the aid of a literal translation (so I theoretically know exactly which words I'm looking for) and Google Translate I can make some headway, but it's often hard for me to tell if the computer version is in fact the same as the calligraphy character I'm looking at. I hope there's someone who can read Chinese who can help me out?
