At the end of July, in preparation for this new job, I ordered a pair of comfy shoes for walking to and from the metro. Skechers Breathe Easy Weekenders, as it happened, slip-on sneakers with a memory foam insole. And they were comfy! But along about the middle or the end of September, what I thought were tags in there that I hadn't noticed before turned out actually to be holes in the insoles. Holes! After less than two months! By my calculations I had worn them for less than 40 miles, and only for walking. Hrrmmm, I thought.

So I wrote to Skechers. I said Hey, guys, I bought these shoes less than two months ago - here's the receipt - and now they've got these holes in them - here's a picture. I expect I can't get a refund from you because I bought them from Amazon, but is there anything you can do? Because surely these things are supposed to last longer than that.

Skechers said Yeah, you should probably see what you can work out with the actual vendor, but if there's nothing to be worked out over there, we can arrange a replacement of equal or lesser value.

So I wrote to Amazon. I said Hey, guys, I bought these shoes less than two months ago and now they've got these holes in them, and the manufacturer says I should talk to you. Any help?

Amazon said Normally we accept returns of items in new condition within 30 days, but given the circumstances I've made a one-time exception to our normal policy. Would you prefer a replacement or a refund?

!!!

So I said "Refund, please," because I've already ordered a pair of Danskos for the purpose - like I would trust Skechers again. And the Danskos are on a truck for delivery right this minute. I will have them soon!

When I got home from work this evening I got my parking space back. (There's room for both our cars and Himself's motorcycle in front of our house, but only if random complete strangers don't park there while I'm out at rehearsal. Someone did on Monday, and someone else took the space when that person left before I got home Tuesday.) And now I have new shoes, the money back for my old shoes (coming), and some Chinese food for dinner. Huzzah!
