making trouble in the neighborhood
Aug. 10th, 2016 02:25 pmOur neighbors on the left, J and M, have a baby who's about ten weeks old (assuming I'm counting properly). Last evening himself was chatting with our neighbors on the right, A and A, and it came up in conversation that we are expecting as well. To which the female half* of the A+A couple apparently (a) said congratulations and (b) displayed aiming-for-comedy levels of jealousy. Her husband had just been saying that if it were up to him they'd start trying for a baby in the next couple of months but if it were up to her they'd begin next week. So we have a possible nanny-share on one side, occasional possible babysitters on the other side, a high likelihood of frozen dinners coming our way around Thanksgiving, and who knows but maybe another baby neighbor this time next year.
* Both J & M and A & A happen to be straight couples. It occurs to me that I'd prefer to get to a point where this is not the default assumption.
