seven months
Jul. 3rd, 2017 09:55 amA week ago Friday the prince was seven months old. Holy, as I say every month, crap.
He likes or does not mind me, his father, his grandmothers, his day care teachers, snuggling, milk, bath time, standing up and holding our hands, nomming anything he can get his mouth on, belly crawling (sometimes), and eating from a spoon: bananas, applesauce, carrots, prunes, peas, pears, peaches, sweet potatoes. (The carrots he tolerates; the rest he likes. Next, mango? I sort of want to give him avocado, but avocadoes are so expensive I'm not sure I want to risk that he won't like them.) He dislikes wet diapers, dirty diapers, being cold, being tired, being hungry, and naptime at home.
You'll note that the list of dislikes didn't include "being lonely when he wakes up in the middle of the night." This is because he is mostly (I hesitate to mention this because it's a bit precarious) sleeping through the night. ! The first night we gave him sweet potatoes at dinner, he'd been sleeping from 7pm to about 3:30am for several nights and waking up hungry, so I was hopeful the starchier food would keep him fuller for the last couple of hours until morning. (Alarm goes off a little before 6am.) Yeah, no, the first night he ate sweet potatoes he woke up at 11 and at 3. Then for a couple of nights he woke up at midnight and then 12:30 but since then he's been going all night. (Knock wood.)
Naptime is still a thing. We've reached a point where mostly I nurse him to sleep, I put him down, he stays down for a period of time between not at all and about five minutes, he cries, one or both of us pats him for a few minutes, and then we leave him crying because he has to learn to sort his shit out. It is hard to do this (especially when my mother is visiting and finding various ways Not To Help, but never mind), but he usually falls asleep in about 20 minutes. Our limit is 45; if he is still crying after 45 minutes we go get him. His pediatrician says he needs to learn that he's going to be in there for an hour and a half whether he sleeps or not, but we have privately decided that there's no way we're going to leave him in there crying for 90 minutes, so 45 is it. Mind you there have been times he's fallen asleep at minute 46 - while we are on the stairs on our way up to get him. [hands] He naps well at day care and okay at grandma's and just doesn't want to do it here at home, but he has to, because 11 hours of sleep overnight is not enough in 24 hours for him. (This weekend: Saturday morning he cried for 45 minutes and did not nap. Saturday noonish he cried for 20 minutes and then slept for an hour and a half. Sunday morning he went right to sleep and napped for 45 minutes. Sunday afternoon he cried for 45 minutes and did not nap. Monday morning - right now - he went right to sleep and has been napping for half an hour and counting. This afternoon, ???)
He is doing great at sitting up and reaching for things and tends to locomote by scooting around in a sitting position. He can also army crawl. It's fantastic to watch him growing; literally every day he is observably bigger and stronger and has learned something new.
