Kid has been wearing odd socks lately, and he can't quite put them on himself, so in addition to asking which foot he wants socked first, I have to ask him which color sock he wants first. He almost always wants to begin on the left - some sort of extension of his pride in being left-handed :-) - but he even more wants to be the one to make the decision, so I do have to ask.

This morning he had a blue sock and a yellow sock. I asked him which he wanted on which foot, and he pointed to the yellow sock with his left foot, and then when I had the thing almost on his toes he switched feet, then switched back again, and then said no no right first - so I put the yellow sock on his right foot and then the blue sock on his left foot. And as I was reaching for his right shoe he started to cry about having wanted the left foot first.

OMG.

I told him for the nine hundredth time that it's not fair to get mad at me for doing what he asked me to do; at least this time it seems to have reached him, because I told him it's called picking a fight and it's not nice. We'll see if it lasts.
