valentine's day
Feb. 14th, 2004 03:21 pmyou can have it.
it's not that i'm cranky because i don't have a date. that is, i'm not any crankier not to have a date today than i am on any other given day. believe me, even when i have had a date on valentine's day, it's -- not to rain on anyone's parade, or anything -- seemed like a dubious (at best) holiday to me. a triumph of marketing by the florists and the confectioners and the greeting-card folks, sure, but about the most useless holiday on the calendar otherwise. so people use it as an excuse they didn't need to treat each other a little better, wear something red -- no problem. but the idea that an event is more romantic because someone chose to hold it on valentine's day: ugh. if a hypothetical boy sends me flowers, i want it to be because he wants to, not because he feels like (or someone convinced him) he should.
this is just me, of course. for some people it is more special. my brother proposed to his girlfriend (granted, like many couples, they'd talked about it in vague terms and it wasn't really a surprise) last year on valentine's day, and i'm told she didn't roll her eyes. a girl at work got a singing valentine from her boyfriend and was just as pleased as could be. fine. no problem.
but it's not for all of us.
in other news, i went back to the doctor, and she told me to stop taking those antibiotics and take these stronger ones instead, because the infection has -- rather than respond to the treatment -- spread to my left ear. fun! bought more yogurt.
and: curled well last night.
datlowen, self,
jgesteve and
darthrami defeated MM, DA, LA and RC in eight ends, with a score of 9 to 7 (i think). everyone -- including MM -- is pleased with how well we're playing. feeling good about the upcoming kayser (mixed 5-and-under).
