errands to run today include getting an Ohio driver's license and mailing my brother his license plates, which he foolishly left here at the house after taking them off his previous car when he sold it.

the leaves are starting to turn, here -- i noticed it on my way up yesterday. i won't get to see the really gorgeous fall colors before i go, but it's more colorful here than in DC.

something about the water in my parents' house. the pressure is way better than anywhere else i've ever lived, for one thing -- but also, the water itself is different. it's probably hard as a rock, but whatever it is, i come home and my face gets smoother and way less oily. (of course, my hands dry right the hell out. life's full of trade-offs.)

so the state of ohio is not interested in the fact that the commonwealth of virginia has been allowing me to drive a car for five years (or that they themselves allowed me to drive one for six years before that). i can't just go to the DMV and get a new license -- i have to take a test at the highway patrol office, and they're not open on mondays.

also, batteries in the camera were drained. so i couldn't take pictures of the trees with the leaves beginning to turn. more rar.

but i did pick up blank audio CDs, which is apparently what this machine my dad has requires, so i'll be able to record some things from cassette to CD and thence into the iPod. also popped up to my high school, which smells the same but doesn't look the same at all. my old english teacher was telling me how the place is a lot richer now than it was (even) then, and it shows. it's a little freaky -- i mean, it was freaky at the time, in ways we probably didn't really realize, but we must have known at some level that our school was Not Normal. but in the past ten years, it's become clearer to me how not normal it is, and at the same time it's become even less normal. crazy.

picked up a couple of groceries. came home. took a nap. am trying to sort through clothes to decide what to bring with me on thursday. leaving in an hour to retrieve dad from airport.

tomorrow: dentist; driver's license; replace batteries in camera and actually take some pictures.
