lead editorial in today's washington post includes the following caution:

[Direct election of the president, rather than the current electoral college system] could also encourage independent candidacies that would weaken the two-party system.

am i the only one thinking, yes! yes, exactly!

can someone tell me why The Two-Party System is better than a system with more parties? i've never taken comparative government; i'm really curious.

i was so ... frustrated
