fox: remus lupin knows from chronic pain (love - brain (by Sam))
last night, i went to bed early -- which is to say, about 11pm -- in a declared attempt to force myself back into this time zone.

i woke up around 4am and tried, really i did, to get back to sleep.  this proving impossible, a little before 6 i got up and showered, thinking, great, then i can chat with some of the west-coast people for a bit and even get a little work done before it's time to leave the house at 9:30.  was feeling sinusy.  took a decongestant.

about 8am the grogginess had returned, so i decided to lie down and close my eyes for a bit so i wouldn't fall asleep in semantics (which, let me say for the record, i'm right with [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon on jumping out the window to avoid).

three and a half hours later (i did set the alarm, but when it went off i made the executive decision to silence it and not to get up), the nausea is mostly gone, but the post-nasal drip that i suspect to be its cause remains.  also, my neck is still really tense.

wtf, i ask you.
fox: fox, UK flag, for living abroad (fox UK - by lysrouge)
so, after this morning's inexplicable complete misery, i did manage to get myself to the starbucks in borders to meet [livejournal.com profile] servalan for lunch and collect the PDFs she'd printed out for me because she is a ROCK STAR.  (stopped at the post office as well, so the second round of new year's cards is finally en route, as well as a small package for [livejournal.com profile] flt and a rather larger one for [livejournal.com profile] elance.)  i was still feeling moderately wretched, so i didn't have any coffee -- i figured, when your stomach feels like this, there's no way acid can be any good.  and buzzed along to class.

syntax moved along at a pretty brisk clip.  for the first time maybe ever, i wasn't spending a lot of the time wondering when the class would be over already (and i like syntax, yo).  handed in my ORS application, which is good because on friday the professor e-mailed to let me know he'd sent the rec letter, so it could be arriving any day now.  found the book i was looking for in the library, which is a surprisingly rare thing.  was having a pretty successful afternoon, actually.

i had the idea that i'd buy a throw blanket and a space heater, but i found only a space heater that was far too big and throw blankets that were far too ugly.  did buy new sheets, though -- maybe these will be un-scratchy, and also maybe the fitted sheet will stay on the bed.

"breakfast pitta" [sic] for dinner.  egg mayonnaise (i.e. egg salad -- i, like a lot of you i'm sure, find "egg mayonnaise" to be redundant [g]) with sausage and lettuce.  not bad.  could have been just egg salad, actually, and i'd have been even happier.

they are busy on the street outside my window with jackhammers and related machinery, and a truck with a spinning yellow light on top of it.  they didn't begin this noise-making until 6:30 this evening.  i hope they don't plan to be at it all night.  (unless it's an emergency, whatever it is, in which event i hope they'll be at it for as long as they need to be and the result is we'll have more hot water when they're through.)
fox: little cartoon self (doll)
oh, i adore this woman.  for one thing, her mood is always either "merry" or "contrary", which is just cute.  but the real thing is, i don't remember the last time i ran into someone so genuinely sweet[livejournal.com profile] merrycontrary is such a sweetheart that we sometimes have to persuade her to snark just so she won't give herself an ulcer.  because on her own she wouldn't do it, i mean.  [dies]  what a doll.  and even without a snark reflex, she's funny!  i don't know very many people who can do that.  [loves [livejournal.com profile] merrycontrary]
