final whozit on the thingie
Mar. 10th, 2006 04:48 amThe syntax paper, she is finished. My f-structures are complete and coherent. My tree diagrams are leafy. My paragraphs are un-widowed and un-orphaned. My quotation marks are single. My name is nowhere to be seen.
Final word count: 4185, which I call perfectly respectable for a paper Not To Exceed 5000 Words. I have the first of two copies printing now, and I've already got two title pages, two bibliographies, and a certificate affirming that it's my own work except where otherwise indicated. In the morning I will acquire an envelope of the appropriate size, into which I will pop all this stuff and on which I will write the appropriate information, and march this sucker across town to hand it in at the Examination Schools by 12:00 noon. (I may actually have until the close of business, but first of all, I have a meeting with my supervisor at 2pm and a recording gig at the Press at 3:30, and secondly, I can't actually find any documentation on the time-of-day deadline for this paper, but for the thesis it's going to be 12 noon, so I figure it's better to miss early, don't you?) I will not have to wear sub-fusc to do this.
I am compulsively hitting Ctrl-S every time I realize I've turned away from the screen for longer than five seconds. Including, almost, just now -- I was watching a page come out of the printer, and then went Oh shit, I was typing and what if the computer freezes and I lose it -- and I almost Ctrl-S'd this LJ entry. In short: time to sleep.
As soon as the last three pages, and the second copy, print.
Many, many, many thanks to
resonant8, who talked through some things and gave me some examples on my way to completely demoting the adjective phrase. :-D
ALSO: Happy birthday to
servalan, who is on vacation and won't see this message.
