Carmina, Carmina; Burana, Burana --
(Yes, the rest of that is "Let's Carl the whole thing Orff." Sorry.)
Went well tonight. There are two pas de deux in particular that are really very beautiful. There are at least two others that are also lovely -- one is very good and I have no other comments; one is very good but I live in constant fear that the boy is going to drop his partner on her head. (I don't know that she doesn't live in the same fear.) Oddly, if we assume that the curtain calls are taken in order of rank, the couple with the potential head-dropping is a notch above the couple with the two very beautiful pas de deux. [shrug] Who can say.
The men have more interesting stuff to do dance-wise than the women. This is (isn't it?) unusual in ballet, but not at all a surprise in this particular case, when you consider that the men also have more interesting stuff to do sing-wise. (Or, for all I know, there's interesting girl-dance stuff happening while I'm singing, so I can't see it.) The lead dancer, who is very good indeed (although differently good from the Byronic male half of the beautiful-pas-de-deux couple), has a bit of a bald spot, and for the performance they'd spray-painted his head.
I don't make this stuff up. :-)
I seem to be allergic to my costume. Makes me itchy. Fun stuff!
