fox: technical difficulties: please stand by. (technical difficulties)
So I'm watching "Robin Hood" on BBCA.  It is a silly show, as Robins Hood are bound to be, with lots of goofy anachronisms and whatnot, but hey, that's their thing, right?

Only [livejournal.com profile] juice817 and I just had this conversation:
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox:  okay, tell me this -- here is an episode of robin hood that is beginning with a mining accident.
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox: call me crazy, but isn't that kind of a bigger anachronism than usual?
[livejournal.com profile] juice817: LOL
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox: i mean
[livejournal.com profile] juice817: i would have to say yes
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox: it doesn't say what it is they're mining, but the crusades did indeed come way before the industrial revolution, right?
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox: also, now the miners are on strike
[livejournal.com profile] juice817: yes
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox: [rubs eyes]
Obviously they could get minerals from the ground before the invention of the steam engine and whatnot, because there was an Iron Age and a Bronze Age and there's always been silver and gold and so on.  But -- collecting rocks and smelting them, right?, different from digging?  I know, I know, me and my expertise in metallurgy.  But -- crusades.  Mine shafts.  Organized labor.  I just -- what?
