I admit it doesn't seem fair to me that the vacuum won't work without a belt. I get that the belt spinning makes the vacuum easier to push across the carpet, okay, but why on earth can't the suction suck even without it?

But anyway, it doesn't work without the belt, and the belt snapped, and today I correctly bought the correct replacement (though in a generic equivalent, so it doesn't have the same part number), and installed it successfully, which takes some fucking doing, and now, the vacuum works! Behold, I am Domestically Competent!
