fox: curling: holding the broom for a hit. (vice)
Didn't play as well this morning noon, and we lost our second game as we deserved to given a couple of really bad ends. But toward the end of the seventh, I called for sweeping on [livejournal.com profile] abka's second rock, which urgently needed it -- and half of one of the teams on the next sheet said "Excuse me, can we maybe lower the decibel level over there?" And they said it kind of nastily, and please understand that I had yelled "yeah!" but not (a) screamed hysterically as is sometimes my habit toward the end of a shot or (b) kept yelling; I'd yelled once, loudly, and that was it.

"Sorry," I said, "but when I'm not loud enough my girls can't hear me." Note that the shot is in play at this time. The rock is coming towards me and I'm kind of trying to look at it.

"Well, we can't hear anything when you are loud," they say. These being the people who were making enough noise earlier in the end that I had to call a shot three times before my team knew what I wanted. Did I tell them to shut up? No -- I waited until the noise had died down enough that my team could hear me. They chose to scold me for something I wasn't doing wrong in the middle of my shot when they were waiting for their shot to even be called.

I have not been so angry in a curling situation in an awfully long time, if ever. I may have been driven to furious tears. I no longer want to kick a dent in anyone's car door or anything, but if they try to speak to me again, I'm not prepared to promise I won't tell them to go to hell.
