Contrary to what you may have read (somewhere, I have no idea where [g]), an eight-ender is not quite "exactly sort of like a grand slam". I mean, yes, it is sort of like a grand slam, in that it's very impressive in a maximal-achievement sort of way. But it's much bigger and less frequent than a grand slam; it's more like a perfect game. Anti-curling chauvinists might now say something like, no, Fox, ten eight-enders in a row would be a perfect game, to which I say, oh, can it. Maybe it's more like a no-hitter, in that it requires (a) admittedly, some mistakes on the part of your opponents, but (b) the cooperation and cohesion of your whole team. You can't get eight by yourself; and if your right-fielder doesn't go after a fly ball, you just lost your no-hitter. Right? So okay, something like that. A cross between a grand slam, a no-hitter, and a perfect game.
All of which is by way of saying, eight-enders are very very rare and very very impressive. Which is why, last night, when a team at my club had six in the house and a tight-ish guard, and with the last rock tapped the guard in and rolled the shooter on as well, for eight, the whole fucking building erupted in cheers.

And so would you have cheered, if you'd been there.
In other curling news, I believe my team's having won last night means we are uncatchable in the standings for the Capital League -- that is to say, I think my name's going on a trophy. w00t and all that, but we didn't get any eight-ender or anything. :-)
