on a pogo stick
Jun. 13th, 2009 11:34 amI have just, because I didn't have anything in mind to change the channel to and had to contemplate the DVD rack for a couple of minutes, caught the first couple of minutes of a movie I'd never heard of before - Elizabethtown, which the guide channel says stars Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst, and in which just before I switched channels I swear I also saw Susan Sarandon; IMDb says it was directed by Cameron Crowe, so I'm going to attribute my never-having-heard-of-it to the fact that I was overseas and not paying attention to movies at the time it came out. But listen: the reason I bring it up is OH MY GOD Orlando Bloom's American accent, which is so awful it actually makes me feel a lot better. (There's a general sense in some circles that British and Australian actors do a more or less universally good job faking American accents, and American actors do a similarly wretched job faking British accents, and young Orlando's effort here at least balances the scale a little bit. Well done. [g])
