Mar. 25th, 2010 11:00 amSaw the ENT yesterday. Short version of a long day: arrived early for my 9am appointment. My sinuses look nice! He wanted to see a fuller CAT scan than the screener I got in the first place. My septum is interestingly deviated (hence the icon), and my middle and inferior turbinates (I think) on the right side are impressively swollen compared to those on the left. It will have been that way all my life, but maybe this is how long I could deal with it in that condition and now something's got to be done. Right now we're not positive, because ...
... then he pressed just in front of my ears and asked me to open and close my mouth and that hurt a lot and he said Aha! TMJ issues could cause most, if not all, of the problems I've been experiencing. So in addition to getting a new CAT scan, he wanted me to see a dentist who deals particularly with TMJ complaints.
As it happens there was a radiology place and such a dentist in the same complex, so I saw them both yesterday also, and will also go back to the dentist for a follow-up on Monday, and the ENT for a follow-up at some point, because it turns out that my jaw is exactly where it belongs, so maybe it's not something wrong with the TMJ, as there's no bone-against-bone action up in there; maybe it's muscular? Hard to say at this point.
Right now I'm to take ibuprofen daily and eat soft foods for a week. The mystery continues.
[eta: Oh, and I meant to say: I got home a little after 3pm. I'm glad I had called my office more than an hour earlier to say Yeah, I didn't know how long I was going to be?, and now I think it's been long enough that when I finally get sprung, I'm just not going to come in. Aie.]
