and gladness of heart
Apr. 26th, 2010 10:25 pmTwo medical appointments today - again with the dentist, where I had my mouth filled with spackle and caulk and more progress made toward getting me the bite guard that will solve all my problems; and a new lady-doctor, where everyone was very pleasant and they had a picture tacked to the ceiling, which I thought was a nice touch. In between I did get some work done, but not as much as I meant to, because the dentist took about four times as long as I expected.
At rehearsal tonight we sang my favorite number on this concert's program (because we're close enough to showtime that we're doing everything, instead of skipping around), and I was glad. It's not madly interesting, the Randall Thompson "Ye Shall Have a Song", but there are bits where the harmonies give me goosebumps, and I'm not too proud to admit it. :-) And I didn't get the soprano solo (and it's not because I wasn't there last week; the girl who got it would have got it no matter what, because she is that good, and I don't begrudge her it one bit), but
sadcypress got the alto solo! (And when he was announcing the soloists, the boss called her by my name! Heh.) But the soprano soloist had to leave early, so I sang her part with the quartet tonight, and I thought I did well - the boss said so, in (I thought) a different tone than he always says everyone did well; and a couple of people in my section said so, but they sort of had to because they're my section, right (although they could have said nothing); and, my personal favorite, a complete stranger (an alto, I think, because if she were a first soprano I'd know her and if she were a second soprano I'd at least recognize her) said to me, as I was on my way to my car, "Did you sing the soprano part? That was good. I like your voice." Praise from randoms is always among the sweetest. :-)
Home now, and to bed soon, where my head won't hurt. Stupid rain. It can stop any time.
