I don't have anything to say about the SPN J2 Big Bang fail that hasn't been said by others linking to [personal profile] amazonziti, so I'll just re-re-link and go on about my business, with only a tiny bit of pull-quoting:
I think that when things like this -- issues of oppression, issues that hurt people like this one hurts me -- rock our fandoms, we should practice not being silent. If you think that I, or that any of the other people I am linking you to, have said it all, you are mistaken. If you think that your silence -- boycotting the fic, for example, but not saying anything -- is helpful, you are mistaken.
It's not okay.

It wasn't okay when it was a prompt for fic about interracial relationships asking for "stories about miscegenation". It wasn't okay when it was a big box of antisemitism tied up with a bow. It wasn't okay when it was about how in order to get a North America with megafauna, it became necessary to fictitiously erase the indigenous peoples (who would otherwise, as they did in the real world, have hunted the megafauna to extinction).

You get full credit for not intending to be racist, misogynist, antisemitic, homophobic, etc. Yes, you do score higher than people who are deliberately [see above]. Congratulations. Unfortunately, intention is only 20% of your final grade. (And there are no cookies with that.)

[eta: Turns out I do have something more to say: [personal profile] bethbethbeth is also right, in that silence is absolutely not wrong. I do think it's good to practice not being silent to the extent we're able - but while silence isn't in itself helpful, it is also not in itself hurtful, and should not be interpreted as assent.]
