I went to bed a little after 11 and read for a bit; the last time I remember looking at the clock it was around 11:30. Woke up this morning to the clock flashing 7:15. Consulted the phone, which told me the actual time was 7:20. If your math is the same as mine, you'll conclude that the power was out for less than an hour. It has stopped raining.

Not unwilling to say Well Done Pepco, but I know they couldn't have done it without Irene. Still, all that tree-trimming seems to have done some good; we didn't have much wind, but it often doesn't take much, with these guys.

My cable is being difficult. I can see the guide, but it's not showing me any shows. Comcast offered to call me back when it was my turn rather than make me wait on hold the whole time. We'll see, but in the meantime I have DVR and DVDs and am not inconvenienced. Glad yet again that I chose DSL internet instead of cable.

Feeling very lucky this morning. Hope everyone else is hanging in there.

I require more bookshelves in my guest room. Disappointingly in the current arrangement of my apartment that's the only place bookshelves can go. I need more storage everywhere. I'm not ready to get rid of old CDs and cassette tapes yet, even though everything is digital and on at least one hard drive by now - so the hard copies could go into some storage unit and stay there, couldn't they. (The old spinning caddies I used to keep CDs in are doing occasional duty as nightstands when I have guests.)

Similarly, I have this old cube stereo I got in high school that I don't think I'll ever use again. Haven't used it in years, in any event. It's got a five-disc changer, a radio, and a double tape deck, with two external speakers (and no remote control). It does not deserve the space it takes up. It's Goodwill-bound the next time I go that way.

The space the stereo is currently sitting in will belong to the end table/file cabinet that got displaced when my old armchair was replaced by a loveseat. This is next to the TV cabinet, though, and the file cabinet thing is an inch or so taller. I'll get some lifts to put the TV thing on; but in the meantime, right now next to the TV is a yarn basket that overhangs the edge of the cabinet by a couple of inches, so I can't put the end table there until I do get the lifts. ARGH.

A slight issue with the swift and winder made a massive snarl of a very expensive ball of yarn. So there's nothing for it but to unpick it by hand. Which I can't tell you how much I don't want to do. It's been sitting on my table for weeks, is how much I don't want to do it. But I can't just never do it - that would be as wasteful as cutting it up.

Bleh.
