fox: technical difficulties: please stand by. (technical difficulties)
1. Am I the only one who routinely confuses Aaron Eckhart and Viggo Mortensen?

2. Yeah, so, my DVD player. The open-close button doesn't work, but I can still open and close it from the remote, so that's all right; but lately it's been up and deciding to rewind when it damn pleases. I can catch it most of the time, but sometimes it goes from the slow (two-arrow) rewind to the skip-rewind, and it can manage to skip-rewind to two tracks later than the one I was in. So it needs replacing.

But it seems they aren't making DVD players much anymore. It's all Blu-Ray all the time now, apparently. I am assured the Blu-Ray machine can read DVDs, so I don't need to replace everything on my shelves. But what Blu-Ray to get? I was looking at one yesterday that said "HDMI cable required", from which I conclude that it doesn't come with the necessary cableage - but I'm pretty sure my TV doesn't even have HDMI. (It's not an HD television, so why would it.) And there are audio/video out ports on the back of the Blu-Ray thing for your standard red-yellow-white(-blue-green-black) cables. So can I just get the machine and swap it in for my dying one and call it a day until I get the fancier TV? It doesn't bother me if the player can't upconvert to higher definition without that cable, since, as I said, the TV can't show me any higher than regular definition anyway.

Thoughts?
