All my overhead lights (kitchen, living room, entryway, closet, bathroom) have just gone out. The rest of my electricity is mostly okay -- TV, A/C, all the clocks, floor lamps, half the outlets in the kitchen. Alas, the other half is where the refrigerator is plugged in.
Front desk says it's all around the building and he's calling emergency maintenance. In the meantime, I think I'm going to plug the fridge in to the outlet that is working. Fear me, for I am resourceful.
(Well, that resourcefulness didn't last long -- the refrigerator revved up and then crapped out again. So this must be a thing about how many watts are moving through the wires, huh?)
[eta: More success, for the moment, with daisy-chaining the power strips to reach an outlet further from the kitchen. The refrigerator is making a humming sort of sound, but I'm not going to open it to check that the light comes on until and unless I absolutely need to. Half to two-thirds of the lights are out in the hallway as well. Not fair that we don't lose power in all the heavy weather, and then when everything is calm it goes -- partway -- out. Feh.]
