Peach jam is not only a success, but 9/10 of the cleanup is done. All but one of the jars has gone ~thwock~ to let me know they're sealed; the last one is the one that's not quite full, so it may take a wee bit longer. The jam in the jars doesn't look like it's setting up right now, but the jam that had dripped onto the counter set like concrete, so I'm not concerned - it'll be fine once it cools. (With two envelopes of pectin in it, as the nice Ball Jar recipe people told me to use, I should hope so.)

So I'm thinking of doing a checked baby blanket. I could either do knit 10/purl 10 for days and days, with a garter border, or I could do entrelac. Never done entrelac before, and I'm a little anxious about doing a border (this one pattern calls for a crocheted border, and I don't crochet; but surely I could pick up stitches all around the edge and just knit a border on?).

BUT: I'd like to do these checks in at least two colors. I'd like to do the whole thing in a main color and throw in a square of a contrast color randomly here and there. Better yet, three colors: I'd like to do the knits in one color and the purls in another, and throw in a square of a contrast color randomly here and there. But I can't figure how to make this work without, and here's my trouble, big ol' loops on the back such as you don't want on the back of a baby blanket. ... I suppose I could knit the loops well in. But there must be a better way.
